The search for the next #GamerToRacer is underway with the second edition of World’s Fastest Gamer kicking going full throttle this weekend.
While the motorsport media may be trying their hand aboard the World’s Fastest Gamer simulators at the R-Motorsport hospitality at the 24 Hours of Spa, a number the previous generation of gamer greats are showcasing their skills on track this weekend.
Former GT Academy graduates – inaugural winner Lucas Ordonez and the first international victor Ricard Sanchez are competing in this weekend’s Belgian endurance classic.
Spaniard Ordonez is racing for Bentley this weekend while Mexican Sanchez is driving a Honda NSX for Jenson Team Rocket RJN.
Former GT Academy coaches are also on track at Spa-Francorchamps. Alex Buncombe played a key role as mentor for many of the gamers from the programme’s inception. The British ace joins Ordonez at Bentley while Japanese driver Katsumasa Chiyo is driving for KCMG aboard a Nissan GT-R. Chiyo was the driver coach for former GT Academy winner and two-time Spa 24-hour entrant, Matt Simmons.
300km away in Germany the inaugural winner of World’s Fastest Gamer, Rudy van Buren, will make his Porsche SuperCup debut for Molitor Racing Systems.
After winning the first edition of World’s Fastest Gamer, Dutchman van Buren was employed by McLaren as a full-time Formula 1 simulator driver.
The second edition of World’s Fastest Gamer will provide the best #GamerToRacer prize yet. The winner will enjoy a full season of GT racing throughout 2020 including contesting next year’s Spa 24 Hour with Aston Martin team, R-Motorsport.
The Swiss team’s No. 762 Aston Martin is showcasing the second edition of the World’s Fastest Gamer programme this weekend with a commemorative livery.
Media and drivers have been doing battle on the World’s Fastest Gamer simulators at Spa-Francorchamps as they chase a US$10,000 bounty to #RaceRudy – trying to beat Rudy van Buren’s benchmark time of 2 minutes, 14.591 seconds around the Spa-Franchorchamps circuit.
