A Las Vegas kickoff and chance to drive some amazing supercars gave the World’s Fastest Gamer finalists an incredible start on their #GamerToRacer journey.
The 10 gamer-to-racer finalists upping the ante on a real-world racetrack in two different types of cars. First, the gamers tackled hot laps in hot cars, driving machines from Porsche, Mercedes, Acura, Audi, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Nissan and Mclaren at Exotics Racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Following their stint in dream machines, the finalists jumped in the Mitjet EXR LV02 racing cars, tackling the challenges of driving in the real world without power steering, ABS or other electronic driver aids—simply a test of man and machine.
“I didn’t think it would be quite like this. I didn’t expect just how much we get to do. I thought it would build up more slowly, but we just got chucked right in, it’s great.” Sebastian Job said.
“Earlier I drove the Lamborghini Huracan and that was quite something! Very twitchy car, but quite fun. It was really nice to drive. And then we did the racecars and I think that went really well. The instructor seemed happy with it. It felt awesome, and it felt super natural.
“The whole experience has been amazing, way beyond anything I expected. It has surpassed expectations by far. It’s crazy what we’ve been able to do so far, and we’re only one day in.”
When they hopped out of the cars, the gamers were given the opportunity to walk around a working racing paddock. The SRO GT World Challenge Americas series was hosting their season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and our finalists were lucky enough to experience the energy and buzz of that series in person before leaving Las Vegas for their next #CaliforniaDreamin tour location.
“Once we figured out we were going to a race track and then also driving real cars, it was super exciting,” Erhan Jajovski said.
“I drove the Acura NSX for the first time, it was so good! The car was pretty heavy, and you can feel the weight transfer. It has some understeer on the exit as well, but it was really fun for a first experience.
“The race car is a totally different beast! No traction control, no power steering, no ABS, so you could feel everything the car was doing. It was pretty amazing. When I started, the first couple of laps, I was pretty anxious. But, once I got used to it, I felt at home, like I was driving on my simulator.”
